Apple starts building iPhone 6S in India to lower costs

Apple has started to manufacture iPhone 6S units in India in an effort to lower costs for the phone. The 6S joins the iPhone SE, which Apple began manufacturing in the country last year, according to The Economic Times.

Import costs saw a 15 to 20 percent increase due to tariffs from India's government back in February. By building the devices in India, Apple hopes to be able to defray some of those costs to better compete in the Indian market.

According to The Economic Times, it'll take some time for Apple to get manufacturing capacity up to speed, so the company will continue to import devices from outside the country, too. So Indian customers shouldn't expect any price cuts — at least for now.
