Mein zweiter vExpert Sub Programm Award

Image

LT1F Vulnerability (L1TF) VMware

I would like to inform about important issue: Intel L1 Terminal Fault Vulnerabilities which high impact to vSphere Infrastructure. That issue had been announced at 00:00 AM today (10:00 AM PDT). This new class of vulnerabilities can occur on current and past Intel processors (from at least 2009 - 2018) when affected Intel microprocessors are speculating beyond an unpermitted data access. By continuing the speculation in these cases, the affected Intel microprocessors expose a new side-channel for attack, allowing a malicious VM to infer data in the hypervisor and other VM's runnin

'Forza Horizon 2' leaves the Xbox Store on September 30th

Image
We hope you weren't thinking of scoring Forza Horizon 2 on the cheap now that Horizon 4 is almost here. Turn 10 and Microsoft are removing the open-world arcade racer and its add-ons from the Xbox Games Store on September 30th. You can still play it if you have a copy, but you'll have to shell out for one of the later games if you just have to get your fix. The developer didn't explain the move beyond saying that the title was "end of life." The good news: if you want to give the game a try, it might not cost you anything. Forza Horizon 2 's regular edition is free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers until August 31st, giving you an easy way to see what you missed . There's little doubt that the creators hope you'll buy a newer Forza title after getting this taster, but the freebie could ensure that you'll have more road rivals

Astronomy Picture of the Day: Asperitas Clouds Over New Zealand

Image
Asperitas Clouds Over New Zealand What kind of clouds are these? Although their cause is presently unknown, such unusual atmospheric structures, as menacing as they might seem, do not appear to be harbingers of meteorological doom . Formally recognized as a distinct cloud type only last year, Asperitas clouds can be stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, and are relatively unstudied. Whereas most low cloud decks are flat bottomed , asperitas clouds appear to have significant vertical structure underneath. Speculation therefore holds that asperitas clouds might be related to lenti cular clouds that form near mountains, or mammatus clouds associated with thunderstorms, or perhaps a foehn wind -- a type of dry downward wind that flows off mountains. Such a wind called the Canterbury arch streams toward the east coast of New Zealand's South Island . The featured image ,

Bots on Amazon's task service may be souring psych studies

Image
It's not uncommon for scientists to use Amazon's Mechanical Turk for research -- they can quickly gather survey data in return for a small outlay to participants. Academics are quickly discovering the limits of the task service with the modern bot-happy internet , however. Numerous psychology researchers have reported a sharp rise in the number of junk responses to their questions, many of which appear to come from bots. The offenders not only spam nonsensical answers to questions (such as "nice" or "good"), but tend to originate from the same location. And while anti-bot measures like captchas are in use, they aren't always reliable. There's a chance that these could be people copying and pasting text, or using some form of automation to find the surveys (which Amazon allows). However, Amazon wouldn't provide evidence one way

Netflix purges all user reviews like it said it would

Image
If you're browsing Netflix for a new show to watch, don't bother looking for reviews on the platform to see if a title is worth your time. The streaming service is done purging user reviews -- a decade's worth of comments praising and excoriating shows, all gone . Under the question "How do I post reviews on Netflix?," the service's Help Center now says : "Netflix customers were able to leave reviews on Netflix.com until mid-2018, when reviews were removed due to declining use. To learn how Netflix suggests TV shows and movies we think you'll love, visit our Ratings & Recommendations article." It won't come as a surprise if you previously heard about the company's decision to remove written reviews by mid-August. And frankly, it won't be something you'll miss if you mainly access the platform through its mobi

Facebook hit with federal complaint over discriminatory housing ads

Image
Despite past efforts , Facebook hasn't avoided federal-level trouble over allegations it enabled discriminatory housing ads . The Department of Housing and Urban Development has officially filed a complaint against Facebook, accusing the social network of violating the Fair Housing Act. HUD claimed that Facebook's ad personalization let adver tisers redline ZIP codes and exclude people based on gender, race, religion, accessibility, national origins and even parental status. The company was limiting home choices for protected classes "under the guise" of targeted ads, HUD said. The US attorney for the Southern District of New York threw support behind HUD's move with a statement of interest in the case. A Facebook spokesperson reiterated the internet giant's stance in a statement to Politico . There was "no place for discrimination

Skype previews texting feature for PCs

Image
Skype has given Insiders on Android a sneak peek of an upcoming feature called "SMS Connect." Windows Blog Italia has spotted an option in the latest version of Skype Preview's settings that would allow you to send and receive texts using Skype on Mac or Windows PC. Say, a friend texts you on your Android phone -- you can reply to that message straight from the Skype app on your computer. You can only see the feature right now if you're an Insider with Skype Preview on Android, but it looks like you still can't switch it on. Rest assured that the feature is real even if you can't see it: Skype Insider's Twitter account has confirmed that it's something the team is working on. [Image credit: Windows Blog Italia] According to Windows Central , an update for Skype Preview on desktop also comes with a change log that says "Us
