Over-the-top anime 'Kill la Kill' becomes a game in 2019

Image
One of the better-known (if at times infamous) anime shows of recent years is getting the video game treatment. Studio Trigger and Dragon Ball FighterZ developer Arc System Works have announced Kill la Kill the Game: If , a 3D brawler adaptation of (what else?) Kill la Kill for both the PS4 and PCs running Steam. The creators haven't said much about how the title will work, but the trailer suggests it'll hew closely to the anime. That means a sword-wielding girl out for revenge (with a giant scissor-like sword), an abundance of violence and equal amounts of racy, sentient clothing. The title doesn't launch until sometime in 2019, but there will be a playable version of the game at the annual EVO fighting game tournament between August 3rd and August 5th. It's far too soon to say if this will be as well-received as Dragon Ball FighterZ , but it ha

Astronomy Picture of the Day: Road to Mars

Image
Road to Mars What's that light at the end of the road? Mars . This is a good month to point out Mars to your friends and family because our neighboring planet will not only be its brightest in 15 years , it will be visible for much of night. During this month , Mars will be about 180 degrees around from the Sun, and near the closest it ever gets to planet Earth . In terms of orbits, Mars is also nearing the closest point to the Sun in its elliptical orbit , just as Earth moves nearly between it and the Sun -- an alignment known as perihelic opposition . In terms of viewing , orange Mars will rise in the east just as the Sun sets in the west, on the opposite side of the sky. Mars will climb in the sky during the night, reach its highest near midnight, and then set in the west just as the Sun begins to rise in the east. The red planet was captured setting beyond a stretch of road

Airbus is designing a Mars rover to return soil samples

Image
Back in April, NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) agreed to figure out whether it's possible to bring Martian soil samples back to Earth. Now, the ESA has granted Airbus a $5.2 million contract to design a concept for a rover that can collect those samples on the red planet. The space agency has chosen Airbus' team in Stevenage, England, becau se they're already building the ExoMars rover that's scheduled to head to our neighboring planet in 2021. Unlike ExoMars and all its scientific instruments, the fetch rover's lone task is to find and collect the canisters of samples NASA's Mars 2020 rover prepares and leaves behind. However, that doesn't mean that designing the vehicle would be easy. Mars 2020 will drill and dig up soil samples to put in over 30 tubes and will then drop them at various points. The fetch rover, which could h

Insurance giant stops covering firms that depend on coal

Image
The elimination of coal power isn't just good for the environment... it's quickly becoming good for the corporate bottom line. Insurance giant Swiss Re has enacted a policy that refuses coverage to any company that either generates 30 percent or more of its revenue from coal power, or uses at least 30 percent coal power to run its operations. Swiss Re touted the move as reflecting its commitment to limiting global w arming (it made a pledge in 2015 alongside the Paris climate accord ), but it also casts this as a shrewd business move. The insurer noted that it's trying to "minimize sustainability risks." Lower emissions and renewable energy are simply better for its business -- it's less likely to pay out if it keeps climate change and pollution (not to mention use of finite resources) in check. Likewise, it sees investing in solar and

Tesla may finally start promoting the Model 3

Image
Tesla hasn't done much to promote the Model 3 after the initial pre-order rush, and has even conducted an anti-marketing campaign (such as encouraging Model 3 customers to switch to the Model S) to help its assembly line keep up with demand . Elon Musk once told the press his company was doing what it could to "not sell the car." Now that production is largely in check , though, it appears ready to start its sales pitch in earnest. Electrek sources have claimed that Tesla is both "starting to build" its North American test drive fleet and offering incentives to stores that sell the Model 3 in Performance trim . The company reportedly limited Model 3 sales to its internal team in the past, and didn't provide incentives for Model 3 sales regardless of the configuration. We've asked Tesla for comment. The EV maker isn't exactl

Polar fitness data exposes homes of soldiers and intelligence agents

Image
Strava isn't the only fitness tech company grappling with the security implications of its fitness tracking . Bellingcat and De Correspondent have discovered that Polar's Flow social platform can reveal the homes of soldiers and intelligence officials with little effort. As it shows all of a given person's published workouts on one map, you only have to find a sensitive installation (such as a military base or spy agency), pick someone who uses a Polar fitness tracker and then see if they have any workouts that end at a residence. Many of these people use their real names and tend to end workouts in front of their homes or hotels, making it easy to correlate their fitness info with social network profiles and other telltale data. The researchers said they compiled a list of roughly 6,500 users, including soldiers in volatile areas (such as Baghdad or
