VMware Cloud en AWS – Parte 3

Image

2018 Bugatti Chiron Lego Technic kit is amazingly detailed

Image
By Joel Stocksdale Lego has finally followed up its amazing Porsche 911 GT3 Technic kit with a kit that's arguably more amazing, and certainly has more pieces. It's the 2018 Bugatti Chiron , and the 1/8 scale kit features 3,599 pieces, which is nearly 1,000 more than the 911. Those pieces make up an impressively detailed model just on looks alone. The blocky LED lights up front, the wide light bar at the rear and the trademark horseshoe design elements all translate surprisingly well to the Lego format. The interior has detailed seats and instruments, and there's even some Chiron luggage that fits under the trunk where there exists a unique serial number. But the really impressive stuff is under the plastic skin. Moving piston engines aren't new to Technic , but it is cool to see that Lego managed to create a tiny version of the W16 engine. You

Fitness app PumpUp left users' personal data exposed on server

Image
While it's not at the catastrophic level of MyFitnessPal's 150 million-user data breach , the company behind the workout app PumpUp left information for 6 million of its members exposed . The Amazon cloud-hosted back-end server holding the data didn't have a password set up for an uncertain lenght of time, enabling anyone to observe sign-ins and exchanged messages. According to ZDnet , the server is now secured -- but it's still exposing data when it acts as a broker exchanging user messages. It uses a communication protocol normally reserved for communicating with Internet of Things devices and apps, which is low-bandwidth but transitory, letting anyone peer in and observe data as it's being sent back and forth. Message senders had their profile data and personal information exposed to whoever was looking -- not just email addresses, locatio

China's NetEase invests $100 million in Bungie to make new games

Image
Bungie, the studio behind hits like Halo , Myth and Destiny , has announced a new deal with Chinese online gaming company NetEase to "build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there." In China NetEase publishes several Blizzard games like Overwatch, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft , among other titles. GamesIndustry reports that NetEase is making a $100 million investment in Bungie that will snag it a minority stake in the developer, but that apparently won't impact Bungie's agreement with Activision, and any decision to bring Destiny to China is still Activision's. Those two companies cut a 10-year, four-game publishing deal for the Destiny franchise in 2010 and Bungie may be setting itself up for life after the arrangement ends, or simply expanding its focus to develop additional franchises on the side. Back in 2013 we reporte

EPA scientific advisory board to review agency's recent rollbacks

Image
This week, the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) met to discuss some of the changes the agency has proposed under Administrator Scott Pruitt. And ultimately, the 44-person board voted to review a number of the EPA's proposals and write a letter to Pruitt. "The leadership of the board was chosen by Pruitt himself, so their decision today is a sharp rebuke of his leadership and this dangerous proposal," Ana Unruh Cohen, managing director of government affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council, told Bloomberg . Among the policies to be reviewed is a controversial decision to roll back guidelines put in place by the Obama administration aimed at reducing automobile greenhouse gas emissions and improving vehicle efficiency. Seventeen states are now suing the EPA over the reduced emissions standards. Pruitt&

Apple lets Telegram iOS update go through following Russia ban debacle

Image
Apple has finally approved an updated version of the Telegram iOS app, after the secure messaging company's chief executive complained yesterday that the iPhone maker was blocking updates worldwide due to a Telegram ban in Russia, reports Reuters . The Russian government first ordered a ban on Telegram back in mid-April , citing Telegram's refusal in an ongoing court battle to hand over encryption keys that would allow the country's Federal Security Service (FSB) access to sensitive user data. The ban has proved troublesome for Telegram , as it's led to the blocking of millions of IPs on Amazon and Google's cloud platforms and requests from the Russia government that American companies, like Apple, pull the software from their respective... Lyft is reportedly close to buying the company behind Citi Bike

Image
Lyft might not sit idle while Uber leaps into the bike sharing space . The Information sources have claimed that Lyft is close to acquiring Motivate, the bike sharing behemoth responsible for New York City's C iti Bikes and San Francisco's Ford GoBikes . Neither company has agreed to comment on the move or how it would affect service, but it supposedly wouldn't affect Motivate's existing agreements. If a buyout moved forward, it'd represent a coup for Lyft. Jump was only available in San Francisco when Uber stepped in this April, but Motivate has exclusive deals in NYC, San Francisco and Boston as well as a preferential arrangements in Chicago and Washington, DC. That could help Lyft quickly integrate bikes into its transportation network -- as in Baltimore , you could start and stop journeys at bike docks to both save money and the environm
