Every Business Can Have Visibility into Advanced and Sophisticated Attacks

Image
Years ago, senior managers of large organizations and enterprises were primarily preoccupied with growing their businesses, forming strategic alliances and increasing revenue. Security, mostly left to IT departments, was usually regarded as a set-and-forget solution that was in place for either compliance purposes or to prevent permanent damage within the organization's infrastructure. Fast forward several years, and organizations have woken up to the cold reality of data breaches, malware outbreaks, and hefty financial penalties because of increased sophistication of threats and inadequate security measures implemented by organizations. Since 2013, hacks and data breaches have not only flooded the main stream media, but have also shown just how ill-prepared organizations really are when dealing with them. Equifax, Yahoo, the US and French election scandals, Wannacry, Not

Identifying & Resolving Excessive CPU Overcommitment (vCPU:pCore ratios)

Image
Help! My performance is terrible and my consultant/vendor says it's due to high/excessive CPU overcommitment! What do I do next? Question: "How much CPU overcommitment is ok?". The answer is of course "It depends" and there are many factors including but not … Continue reading → via Latest imported feed items on VMware Blogs https://ift.tt/2tgSk0R If New feed item from https://blogs.vmware.com/feed , then send me an email at kr

Faut-il suivre les best practices VMware ?

Image
If New feed item from https://blogs.vmware.com/feed , then send me an email at kr

Amazon Prime Video is offering dubious conspiracy videos

Image
It won't surprise you to hear that streaming services are full of documentary-style videos with dodgy claims about aliens or the paranormal. Amazon Prime Video, however, is coming under fire for offering considerably worse. The Telegraph has noticed that the service includes numerous conspiracy videos from widely discredited sources like Alex Jones and David Icke. Amazon isn't going out of its way to promote the junk theories (which include the New World Order and reptilian aliens). As a subscription service, though, it's paying the authors for their work -- unlike YouTube, it can't just pull ads . As Gizmodo observed , there's also the potential for Amazon to inadvertently promote the clips through its recommendation system, which might reel in particularly susceptible viewers. We've asked Amazon if it can comment. It's legal to

Astronomy Picture of the Day: An Active Prominence on the Sun

Image
An Active Prominence on the Sun Sometimes the Sun's surface becomes a whirlwind of activity. Pictured is a time-lapse video of the Sun 's surface taken over a two hour period in early May, run both forwards and backwards. The Sun's surface was blocked out so that details over the edge could be imaged in greater detail. Hot plasma is seen swirling over the sol ar limb in an ongoing battle between changing magnetic fields and constant gravity. The featured prominence rises about one Earth-diameter over the Sun's surface. Energetic events like this are beco ming less common as the Sun nears a minimum in its 11-year activity cycle . Xbox One preview brings FastStart loading to Game Pass

Image
If you like the thought of speeding up access to Xbox Game Pass titles with FastStart , you don't have to wait until the finished Xbox One update arrives later in June -- you can try it right now. Microsoft has rolled out FastStart to both its Xbox One Preview Beta members as well as some Delta Ring users. As the company outlined at E3, it uses machine learning to ma ke titles playable roughly twice as quickly as before by downloading just those elements you actually need to get started. It's not certain which titles are FastStart-friendly at this stage. Microsoft knows where it would like to focus your attention, though. It's looking for feedback on the install speed of a handful of games, including Spelunky , The Flame in the Flood and Fuzion Frenzy . That's a hint that at least some games aren't guaranteed to fire up as quickly as you might li

Man goes to prison for attempting to hijack web domain at gunpoint

Image
Internet domains are becoming increasingly desirable , especially as the web becomes crowded and it becomes harder to find memorable addresses. However, one man unfortunately took this to a violent extreme. Iowa resident Sherman Hopkins Jr. has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for attempting to steal control of doitfo rstate.com (which doesn't currently point anywhere) in an armed robbery. Hopkins pleaded guilty to invading a home in June 2017 and demanding that that the victim (Ethan Deyo) transfer the domain through GoDaddy while pointing a pistol at his head. When Deyo asked for the mailing address and phone number he needed to complete the domain, Hopkins pistol-whipped and tased him several times. Deyo managed to get control of the gun and shoot Hopkins, but only after Hopkins had shot him in the leg. While it's unclear exactly why Hopkin

3D world-building tool SculptVR makes its way to PSVR

Image
SculptVR already provides creative minds a way to conjure up Minecraft -like worlds with detailed 3D sculptures on the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Google Daydream . Now, it's also giving PlayStation VR fans the tools they need to bring their imagination to life. The application will be available for Sony's virtual reality platform on June 19th, allowing you to create any 3D object you want using PSVR's controllers. Drawing with controllers may sound daunting, but SculptVR founder Nathan Rowe said it could actually be easier than drawing 2D images. See, when you draw in 2D, you need to have an understanding of perspective, light and shadows. But when you draw in 3D using the application, you can simply recreate what you see in real life: SculptVR can take care of the perspective and shading for you. And if you want to create big detailed worlds, that's no

Google demo shows how AR can thrive on the web

Image
Google has been hyping up augmented reality on the web , and it's easy to understand why -- it promises an immersive experience without requiring a special app. But what does that look like in practice? The company now has an easy way to find out. It recently released Chacmool , a previously seen tech demo for Chrome Canary that uses the WebXR format to bring an educational AR experience to your browser. You'll need an ARCore-compatible Android phone running Oreo in addition to Canary, but you're good to go after that. You can walk around a Mesoamerican sculpture reading annotations as if you were visiting a museum exhibit without the usual cordons and glass cases. Whether or not you see more of this will depend on the adoption of WebXR, not to mention more polished versions of Chrome and broader ARCore support. This may be as good as it gets for

Facebook will stop showing minors ads for gun accessories

Image
Facebook will soon prevent minors from viewing ads for gun accessories such as holsters, or magazines. The move comes amidst renewed focus on gun violence in the United States following school shootings in Santa Fe, Texas, Parkland, Florida, and others. According to a Facebook spokesperson, the company already bans ads for guns and modifications, but sellers can post ads for accessories such as gun-mounted flashlights, scopes, holsters, gun cases, gun paint, or slings. The company isn't going to prohibit those ads, but it will require sellers to "restrict their audiences to at least 18 years of age or over." The company's listed adverting policies don't currently list the age restriction — that will change when the policy will take... Continue reading… via The Verge - Tech Posts https://ift.tt/2yiB2WT
