Tesla’s chief vehicle engineer returns to Apple

Image
Doug Field, the former VP of Mac hardware who left Apple to become Tesla's chief vehicle engineer, has returned to Cupertino. Apple confirmed the news to Daring Fireball 's John Gruber , who separately reports that Field is now working on the company's secretive "Project Titan" self-driving car program. Field ran Tesla's vehicle production and engineering, but CEO Elon Musk took over responsibility for production this year after the company failed to meet its initial first-quarter goal for the Model 3. Field then took a leave of absence in May, and subsequently left the company altogether in June. Project Titan has reportedly been scaled back considerably from its initial scope, with hundreds of people leaving the division as Apple is said... Former Tesla engineering lead Doug Field is back with Apple

Image
Tesla confirmed in July that instead of returning from a six-week break, senior engineering VP Doug Field had departed the company. The timing was interesting as it came during Tesla's push to ramp up production of the Model 3 sedan, which was the kind of issue we'd expected Field to address after he joined in 2013 . Whatever the reasons for his split from Tesla, Daring Fireball writer John Gruber has confirmed with Apple PR that Field is back with the company he left five years ago. Going a step further, Gruber said that he has heard from sources that instead of returning to Mac engineering, Field is working on Apple's rebooted Project Titan vehicle team -- a move that could suggest it has bigger plans than just an add-on self-driving car kit . Normally, we'd be on alert for a snarky tweet or two from Elon Musk about the shift (three years ago he told a

Virtual Machines or Containers. Which is Better in NFV Infrastructure?

Image
There are a significant amount of advantages of using container-based VNFs rather than hypervisor driven. But if we look at the current stage of NFV progress in NFV technology innovation was not much faster which were anticipated in 2012 due to lack of common guidelines model. But now, 5G networks are started to deploy and tested in The post Virtual Machines or Containers. Which is Better in NFV Infrastructure? appeared first on Calsoft Inc. Astronomy Picture of the Day: Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744

Image
Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744 Beautiful spiral galaxy NGC 6744 is nearly 175,000 light-years across, larger than our own Milky Way . It lies some 30 million light-years distant in the southern constellation Pavo and appears as only a faint, extended object in small telescopes. We see the disk of the nearby island universe tilted towards our line of sight. This remarkably detailed galaxy portrait covers an area about the angular size of the full moon . In it, the giant galaxy's elongated yellowish core is dominated by the light from old, cool stars. Beyond the core, grand spiral arms are filled with young blue star clusters and speckled with pinkish star forming regions. An extended arm sweeps past a smaller satellite galaxy at the upper left. NGC 6744's galactic companion is reminiscent of the Milky Way's satellite galaxy the Large Magellanic Cloud . August 10, 2018 via NASA

'God of War's' New Game+ arrives on August 20th

Image
You may want to hold off on replaying God of War for the umpteenth time, at least for the next few days. Sony is rolling out New Game+ on August 20th, giving your next round of mythological father-and-son bonding new elements to make it a bit different than before. One of those elements is something speedrunners and grinders would love: the ability to skip cinematic scenes. You'll even be able to skip cinematics in normal mode after beating the game in New Game+ for the first time. Since the mode carries over your gear and resources from previous playthroughs, it also adds higher level enemies to keep things challenging. Speaking of armors, you can collect a new type of resource called "Skap Slag" to give your gear the highest upgrade possible. Make sure to play around with the new armors and enchantments, as well, to explore the new customization optio

Anne Frank Center asks Facebook to remove Holocaust denial pages

Image
The Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect is calling out Facebook for allowing Holocaust denial pages on its site. And the center is doing so through a petition in which it's requesting Facebook and CEO Mark Zuckerberg take them down. "When these pages spread lies and untruths, it is veiled hatred and anti-semitism designed to cast doubt on facts," the center says in the Change.org petition . "There is a difference between providing a platform for free expression and knowingly spreading false information and lies. Denying the Holocaust causes harm." Though Facebook has attempted to stem the spread of misinformation on its site in various ways since acknowledging its fake news problem, the issue still persists. In some cases, that's because Facebook has made an active decision to leave misinformation on its site. Take, for example, last mo
