Netflix snaps up musical series originally intended for Fox

Image
Netflix is no stranger to rescuing movies on the brink of oblivion , but now it's getting more comfortable with the idea of giving TV pilots a second chance. The company has ordered 10 episodes of Mixtape , a romantic musical series whose pilot didn't make the cut a t Fox. Creator Joshua Safran (of Gossip Girl and Quantico fame, above) will continue to be involved along with most of the pilot's cast, with only the main actor's role changing. The show revolves around the love stories linking a seemingly "disparate" group of Los Angeles residents, with music naturally providing the glue. Netflix isn't quite the knight in shining armor here: the studio shopped the production to streaming companies almost as soon as it turned down a conventional TV series. And Netflix is more than a little cozy with Fox, having picked up Lucifer

VMware Workstation Pro 14 issues with old CPU

Image
VMware Workstation 14 it's a great product and adds several features from ESXi 6.5 and 6.7 (like NVMe support). But drops too many CPU from its compatibility list and this means less support for old PCs or laptop. With an unsupported processor, you can create, configure, move the VMs, but when you try to power on them, you will receive an error message like this:   This host does not support virtualizing real mode. The Intel "VMX Unrestricted Guest" feature is necessary to run this virtual machine on an Intel processor. Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on […] The post VMware Workstation Pro 14 issues with old CPU appeared first on vInfrastructure Blog . via Latest imported feed items on VMware Blogs https://ift.tt/2MKWfv2 If New feed item from https://blogs.vmware.com/

Free ebook from VMware – Accelerating Digital Transformation with Containers and Kubernetes

Even as a trainer/lecturer firmly entrenched in the sysop mould, even I have to now concern myself with the move to Devop, on the majority of systems and infrastructure courses I now deliver, we cover containers. I see the point, I see how they can make our lives easy, I can see how system become more fluid and dynamic. But!!!!!! I've worked in IT since 1986 and my stereotypical view of developers still exists, these are people who sit in cupboards, have no communication skills and hate the sun light. Fortunately my views are now be challenged, and at the company I work for, we deliver award winning apprenticeship programs, and seeing the next generation of IT professionals coming through I can see that my stereotypical view of developers is outdated. Astronomy Picture of the Day: Dawn s Early Light, Rocket s Red Glare

Image
Dawn s Early Light, Rocket s Red Glare If you saw the dawn's early light from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station last Friday, June 29, then you could have seen this rocket's red glare. The single 277-second long exposure, made from the roof of NASA's Vehicle Assembly building, shows a predawn Falcon 9 launch, the rocket streaking eastward into the sky about 45 minutes before sunrise. At high altitude, its stage separation plume is brightly lit by the Sun still below the eastern horizon. The Falcon 9 rocket's first stage had been launched before , lofting the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) into orbit on April 18, only 72 days earlier . For this launch of SpaceX Commercial Resupply Service mission 15 (CRS-15) it carried an also previously flown Dragon capsule. But no further reuse of this Falcon 9 was planned so no dramatic fir st stage landing followed the l

AI-enabled Guess store helps you create an ensemble

Image
You can try Amazon's Echo Look if you want AI to offer fashion advice at home. But what if you're at the store, and would rather not hem and haw while you decide if that top goes with those jeans? Guess and Alibaba think they can help. They've worked together on an AI system, FashionAI, that uses computer vision to help you create an entire outfit while you're shopping. A smart mirror can recognize the color, style and traits of what you're holding (such as the neckline) and suggest other items that would be a good complement, including clothes you've already bought online. Can't style your way out of a wet paper bag? You might only have to pick one piece that strikes your fancy to create a full ensemble. There's more tech behind the scenes, too. Each item in the store carries Bluetooth, RFID and motion sensors to automaticall

Netflix tests 'Ultra' tier that could add a higher price option

Image
Over the last few years, Netflix has slowly rolled out a series of price increases for its streaming service. After the debacle of 2011 that occurred when it announced a split between its streaming and disc service to create " Qwikster" the company has been more sensitive to potential backlash. The company's next move could be to launch a new higher price option, without changing the price on current plans. An "Ultra" tier has shown up for some users in Europe as reported by TuttoAndroid , with a maximum price in Euros of 16.99 to 19.99, above the current "Premium" tier that is 13.99. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed the tests to CNET , and said that "In this case, we are testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix." CordCutting.com found the changes applied in oth

Google tries to calm controversy over app developers having access to your Gmail

Image
Google has published a new blog post in response to a story from The Wall Street Journal yesterday that detailed how common it is for third-party app developers to be able to read and analyze the contents of a user's Gmail message. While not offering any substantially new insights into the industry practice, now understood to be quite widespread, Google does outline measures a user and business organization using G Suite can do to protect their privacy and security. The company also reiterates its commitment to vetting those third-party apps and services that have access to sensitive Gmail data. "A vibrant ecosystem of non-Google apps gives you choice and helps you get the most out of your email," reads the company's blog post , written...
