PowerCLI and VVols Part IV: Correlating a Windows NTFS to a VMDK

Image
My last post in this series was about getting a VVol UUID and figuring out what volume on a FlashArray it is. But what about the step before that? If I have a guest OS file system how do I even figure out what VMDK it is? There is a basic option, which can potentially … Continue reading PowerCLI and VVols Part IV: Correlating a Windows NTFS to a VMDK → via Latest imported feed items on VMware Blogs https://ift.tt/2PAKk5a If New feed item from https://blogs.vmware.com/feed , then send me an email at kr

Astronomy Picture of the Day: Stripping ESO 137-001

Image
Stripping ESO 137-001 Spiral galaxy ESO 137-001 hurtles through massive galaxy cluster Abell 3627 some 220 million light years away. The distant galaxy is seen in this colorful Hubble/Chandra composite image through a foreground of the Milky Way's stars toward the southern constellation Triangulum Australe. As the spiral speeds along at nearly 7 million kilometers per hour, its gas and dust are stripped away when ram pressure with the cluster's own hot, tenuous intracluster medium overcomes the galaxy's gravity. Evident in Hubble's near visible light data, bright star clusters have formed in the stripped material along the short, trailing blue streaks. Chandra's X-ray data shows off the enormous extent of the heated, stripped gas as diffuse, darker blue trails stretching over 400,000 light-years toward the bottom right. The significant loss of dust and gas will m

Elon Musk: Tesla will stay public

Image
Remember a couple of weeks ago when Elon Musk, out of the blue, tweeted that he had "funding secured" and would consider taking his car company private at a price of $420 per share? Well, you can forget it, since the billionaire announced tonight in a blog post that Tesla will remain a publicly traded company for now. While questions surrounding the circumstances of his initial announcement remain (partially thinks to Azealia Banks Instagram Stories feed), Musk said that based on conversations with shareholders, the board of directors and firms like Morgan Stanley, the message received was "please don't do this." The next TBS esports series looks inside a major ‘CS:GO’ tournament

Image
TBS has become an unexpected home for esports content over the last two years , though it's mostly covered Eleague, the pro gaming circuit the cable network's parent company Turner helped create. Its next show dives into the recent CS:GO pro tournament, Eleague Premier 2018, which wrapped at the end of July. While we know the results, we don't know the stories: The seven-part series follows players from eight of the top-ranked professional teams that competed, and its first hour-long episode debuts August 31st at 11PM ET/PT on TBS. The series will explore major team storylines in ways we've come to see in shows that have followed traditional sports seasons. Per Eleague's press release , expect to see Cloud9's rivalry with Team Liquid, Denmark's Astralis appearing after a run of tournament finishes and a spotlight on Ukrainian team Natus Vin

The electric Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow is retro quick

Image
There's no shortage of electric concept cars based on vehicles of the past . But that's doesn't mean I'm any less excited about the Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow. Based on the W 125 Benz from 1937, the single-seater concept car looks like its ready for a driver with goggles and leather helmet. During an event at Pebble Beach, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the sportscar that combines retro design combined with current and future technology. The EV has an 80kWh battery pack that's good for about 248 miles before needing a recharge. The vehicle has 750 horsepower from the nearly silent electric powertrain. But, if you miss the roar of an engine, you can pipe in the sound of a Formula 1 Silver Arrow or Mercedes-AMG V8. While going fast shouldn't be too tough of a problem for the EQ Silver Arrow, while slowing down the brakes get a bit of help from two e

Reddit moderators spotted Iranian fake news campaign months ago

Image
Earlier this week, Facebook, Twitter and Google announced they had pulled a number of accounts linked to a misinformation campaign based out of Iran. Facebook took down 652 pages believed to be connected to the campaign while Twitter suspended 284 accounts. Google also removed a number of YouTube channels, Google+ accounts and Blogger blogs. But NBC News reports today that a handful of Reddit moderators spotted this misinformation effort some time ago and that their reports to the website were ignored. After noticing certain Reddit users were posting divisive political content from some obscure news sites, one moderator, Alex Brown, and a few others began investigating. By looking into website identification data and tracking IP addresses, the group was able to determine that the websites were linked to Iran and were part of a propaganda effort. "I tried going

Magic Leap teardown reveals the complexities of mixed reality

Image
After years of waiting, Magic Leap released its mixed reality headset earlier this month. The Magic Leap One Creator Edition isn't quite a consumer-facing device -- instead, it comes bundled with several 'preview experiences' meant to inspire folks who want to make their own apps for the device's mixed reality OS . Now that the community's had a bit of time with the headset, Ifixit has torn one apart , giving us an inside look at the device that's been a big mystery. First, the specs. The Creator Edition is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra X2 "Parker" SoC with a pair of Denver 2.0 64-bit cores and a quartet of ARM Cortex A57 64-bit cores, as well as an integrated Pascal-based GPU. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage, a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and connections to Bluetooth 4.2 and WiFi. All of these are packed in t

Japan teams up with Uber, Airbus and 19 others on flying taxi plan

Image
Japan wants to bring flying taxis into the mainstream over the next decade and it's putting together a government-led group in order to do so, Bloomberg reports. The country's trade ministry said to today that the group will bring together at least 21 businesses including Uber, Boeing, Airbus, Japan Airlines and Toyota-backed Cartivator , which will meet next week to discuss plans going forward. For it s part, the government will work on ways to regulate these sorts of vehicles. "The Japanese government will provide appropriate support to help realize the concept of flying cars, such as creation of acceptable rules," the ministry said. A number of companies are already working on various versions of flying taxis. Rolls-Royce unveiled its Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing concept last month and Airbus' Vahana took its first flight in Janu

YouTube expands non-skippable ads to more creators

Image
YouTube is expanding non-skippable ads on its platform. Today, the company announced that all creators who can already monetize content on YouTube will soon be able to turn on non-skippable ads on all videos. The change is rolling out next week and eligible creators will get a notification in their dashboard. Advertisers usually pay creators more for non-skippable ads, so this could be a way for YouTubers to incentivize creators to stick around on its platform and produce more content, with each ad sale earning the Google-owned company a cut. If a creator turns on non-skippable ads, even previously published videos on their channel will be able to make use of them. YouTube is also adding a tool to let creators bulk add or remove... Anyone with an Amazon account can now make a collaborative wish list

Image
At long last, Amazon has made collaborative wish lists and shopping lists available to everyone. That means that now you can pool together your vacation gear needs or requests for party gifts into one list multiple people can edit. At the end of July , Amazon announced the feature was slowly rolling out, but the company hadn't said when everyone would get the feature. In the past, users had to share their lists with people if they wanted to let people know what they were asking for. (Wedding registry is an exception where users had been able to work off a collaborative list in the past.) Avoid duplicate gift requests Collaborators can now add or remove products, comment on selections, make suggestions, or buy it themselves. You can also... The courageous iPhone headphone dongle is obviously the most popular Apple accessory at Best Buy

Image
It's an understatement to say that Apple makes lots of popular products that people like to buy: iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and more. But none as apparently as beloved as the 3.5mm headphone jack to Lightning port dongle — at least, if Best Buy's sale data is anything to go by, according to a report from Ceros ( via 9to5Mac ). Yes, as the chart indicates, the humble $9 dongle has dominated as the most purchased Apple product at the blue-and-yellow hued electronics store since Q2 2017, overtaking the previous champion: the three-foot-long Lightning cable . (As a caveat, Ceros ' data doesn't include iPhones — which can be explained either by how Best Buy counts different SKUs, the fact that for whatever reason Best Buy may not sell many...
