Microsoft to unveil new Surface Hub 2 displays in coming months

Image
Microsoft is currently working on a second generation of its Surface Hub, the company’s giant 55- and 84-inch 4K smart displays. “Surface Hub created an entirely new device category and we’re thrilled with the strong momentum we have seen across the globe,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge . “We’re working on V2 and will share more in the first half of this year.” The software giant is planning to unveil the Surface Hub 2 in the first half of 2018, but it’s not clear when the devices will be available for businesses to purchase. Microsoft is also working on a new operating system upgrade for existing Surface Hub devices, and the company is hoping to bring many of the Surface Hub 2 software features to the current... Asos’ Style Match is like a reverse image search for shoppable clothes

Image
Asos, one of the biggest names in fashion e-commerce, is rolling out its Style Match visual search tool globally for iOS and Android. First introduced for its iOS app in the UK last August, the feature lets users take or upload a photo to the app to find visually similar clothing styles that are available to shop. Currently, there are 85,000 products available to search through, and Asos says it’s adding 5,000 new items weekly. In the age of style bloggers and Instagram influencers, the feature will be useful for users looking to emulate their favorite looks with affordable fast-fashion. Users can tap the camera icon in the search box to upload a screenshot from Instagram, a photo taken from a magazine, or to take a picture right from... Microsoft is now selling its own edition of Samsung’s Galaxy S9

Image
Microsoft is once again selling its own custom version of Samsung’s Galaxy S9. The handset is available in Microsoft Stores in the US , and will ship with some customizations from Microsoft. “A Microsoft customization is applied to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus Microsoft Edition when the devices are unboxed and connected to Wi-Fi,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to TrustedReviews . These customizations are likely the same as last year’s Galaxy S8, with Microsoft apps like Office, OneDrive, Cortana, Outlook all bundled on the device. Microsoft’s popular Launcher doesn’t appear to be preinstalled. While Microsoft is labeling the Galaxy S9 a “Microsoft Edition,” in its statement, Samsung previously told The Verge... Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2s might have a camera notch in the top-right corner

Image
Phone manufacturers are still figuring out the best way to give consumers edge-to-edge screens while also leaving space for the front-facing camera. But in leaked images and videos purportedly showing Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Mix 2s, the Chinese company seems to have come up with a novel solution: stick the camera in the corner. Leaked images of the Mi Mix 2s first appeared last month , and a blurry hands-on video that popped up this week seem to confirm this design. In this writer’s opinion, it doesn’t look too bad. It would certainly be more functional than the camera placement on the Mi Mix 2, which put it down in the bottom right-hand corner , and less obtrusive the central notch of the Essential Phone. (Although we wonder if Android has s... Continue reading… via The Verge - Tech Posts "http://ift.tt/2oTa7Kn"

Twitter may eventually let anyone become verified

Image
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said in a Periscope livestream today that the company is working to allow any user to become verified. “The intention is to open verification to everyone,” Dorsey says. “And to do it in a way that’s scalable, where [Twitter] is not in the way and people can verify more facts about themselves and we don’t have to be the judge or imply any bias on our part.” Dorsey didn’t elaborate further on what this process looks like, but other online communities, such as Airbnb , employ a user-submitted verification program that requires users to submit a Facebook profile, phone number, email address, or a government-issued photo ID. When Twitter first added the blue checkmark to indicate verified profiles, it was originally... Continue reading… via The Verge - Tech Posts "http://ift.tt/2Hl8M5Y"

Study finds that people are more loyal to Android than iOS

Image
A new study done by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) says that Android users have higher brand loyalty than iOS users, as reported by TechCrunch . The report says that not only has Android loyalty been rising since early 2016, but it’s currently the highest it’s ever been. To measure current loyalty to each platform, the study looked at the percentage of US customers who stayed with their operating system after upgrading their phones in 2017. Ninety-one percent stayed with Android, while 86 percent stayed with iOS. Mike Levin, partner and co-founder of CIRP, tells TechCrunch that “With only two mobile operating systems at this point, it appears users now pick one, learn it, invest in apps and storage, and stick with it.” B...
