Android users may get an official dark mode in a future update


Keen Android users who’ve been following a somewhat obscure Google Issue Tracker thread from November of last year are celebrating a new development: the thread, in which a user asked about a dark mode to improve battery life on Android phones with OLED screens, has been closed.

The issue was marked “fixed,” and the Google employee who initially responded in the thread saying he would bring the feedback to the Android engineering team said that the “engineering team has added this feature,” noting how “it will be available in a future Android release.” The change, which users responded to quite enthusiastically, was spotted by DroidLife, which reported the news earlier today.
