'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' to return on Disney's streaming service

Image
The original run of Star Wars: The Clone Wars ended after five seasons and a bundle of "Lost Missions" episodes on Netflix , but now the CGI series is coming back. Today at Comic-Con supervising director Dave Filoni made a surprise announcement that a new 12-episode season will arrive on Disney's upcoming streaming service , complete with the poster above and a brief trailer. Disney CEO Bob Iger had promised a "few" Star Wars series in development for the new service, and now it's clear that this is one, joining a live-action show from Jon Favreau . The ( still-canon ) Clone Wars makes sense, with a fan base already set up and a storyline ready to pick up after its main character has just left the Jedi Order. Entertainment Tonight notes that in 2014, one of the writers told a fan that scripts for season seven and eight were already written, bu...

Google AI experiment compares poses to 80,000 images as you move

Image
Google released a fun AI experiment today called Move Mirror that matches whatever pose you make to hundreds of images of others making that same pose. When you visit the Move Mirror website and allow it to access your computer's camera, it uses a computer vision model called PoseNet to detect your body and identify what positions your joints are in. It then compares your pose to more than 80,000 images and finds which ones best mirror your position. Move Mirror then shows you those images next to your own in real time and as you move around, the images you're matched to change. You can even make a GIF of your poses and your Move Mirror matches. "With Move Mirror, we're showing how computer vision techniques like pose estimation can be available to anyone with a computer and a webcam," Google said in a blog post . And if you're worried abou...

Microsoft detected Russian phishing attacks on three 2018 campaigns

Image
Russia is still launching cyberattacks against the US, a Microsoft exec has revealed, contradicting what the President claimed just a few days ago. According to Microsoft VP for customer security and trust Tom Burt (shown above second from right, with his hand raised), his team discovered a spear-phishing campaign targeting three candidates running for office in 2018. Burt announced his team's findings while speaking on a panel at the Aspen Security Forum, where he also revealed that they traced the new campaign to a group believed to be operated by the GRU, Russia's largest foreign intelligence agency. In other words, those three candidates are being targeted by the same organization that infiltrated the DNC and Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign in 2016. The US recently indicted 12 Russian GRU officials, 11 of whom are accused of hacking t...

Pioneer's DJ app can upload your mixes directly to SoundCloud

Image
DJs make up a huge part of the SoundCloud user base, uploading long mixes and gathering original electronic music to include in live performances. Pioneer is taking advantage of this fact with an update to its iOS mix recording app, DJM-REC . The company has just made it possible to record and share your DJ mixes directly from the app to your SoundCloud account. The app is free to try for 30 days and then it will cost $10 to continue using it. In addition to the new SoundCloud capabilities, DJs can also use DJM-REC to upload their recorded mixes to Mixcloud and Dropbox, and live stream to YouTube, Facebook Live, Periscope, Instagram and Snapchat. The app works with Pioneer's mixers, including the DJM-TOUR1 , DJM-900NXS2 , DJM-750MK2 and DJM-450 models. You may need to apply a firmware update to some mixers to work with the app. Source: iTunes...

Waze now works with Android Auto's phone display

Image
Last July, Waze finally integrated with Android Auto, but the service was limited. Android Auto has two parts: What you can see on the car's display unit and what is available on your phone's screen. Previously Waze was only available through the car's screen , but Android Police noticed you can now access it as an option on phones as well. The Waze app has long been available for Android phones. This new update, however, is specifically referring to Waze on Android Auto on phones. This means you don't need a car display unit to be able to use Waze on Android Auto. This news comes on the heels of Apple's announcement that iOS will finally open CarPlay to third-party maps with iOS 12. Waze and Google Maps will likely both be available when the new OS version launches this fall. Via: 9to5Google Source: Android Police ...

Amazon's Part Finder helps you find those weird screws you need

Image
If you have a home hardware part you can't really identify but need more of, you might find that the camera in Amazon's iPhone app is a bit more useful after a low-key recent update. The new Part Finder tool uses computer vision to determine the type of screw, nut, bolt or other fastener you have, and points you to where you can buy more in its store. Amazon added the feature to its iOS app a couple of weeks back, it confirmed to TechCrunch , but didn't announce Part Finder or even mention it in the App Store release notes. There's no sign of an Android release as yet. To use the feature, you'll need to place the part on a white surface next to a penny (likely for scale). The app will tell you how to line up the camera, and once it has scanned the item, Amazon will display some results. The following screen will ask you for more details to...

Sony is making a limited edition ‘Amazing Red’ PS4 Pro for Spider-Man’s launch

Image
Sony is no stranger to releasing custom-edition PlayStation 4 consoles to celebrate the launch of big games, but sometimes they can frankly be pretty hideous. But this red PS4 Pro, available as part of a Spider-Man bundle on September 7th, is definitely going to appeal to gamers who love their comic books. It's red. It's vibrant. Sony calls it "Amazing Red," according to the box. There's a huge Spider-Man logo stamped onto the top. What else do you want? It also comes with a physical copy of the game and vouchers for DLC. Here it is from another angle: The included controller perfectly matches the console's color scheme, too. I'm a little confused as to whether the top of the console is glossy or not — Sony's video makes... Continue reading… via The Verge - Tech Posts https://ift.tt/2uP6uXP ...

Microsoft says hackers already targeted three 2018 midterm candidates

Image
Hackers have already targeted at least three 2018 Congressional candidates, according to a Microsoft executive, who disclosed the attempted cyber-intrusions today during a panel at the Aspen Security Forum . Tom Burt, corporate vice president for customer security and trust at Microsoft, noted at the panel today that the company had tracked attempts to use fake Microsoft domains for espionage activities in 2016. Those attempts were linked to a group Microsoft calls "Strontium" — the same hackers who targeted the Democratic National Committee in 2016, and who have been tied to Russian military intelligence. The company has been active in taking down those domains, he said, but similar activity has continued into this year. "Those phishing...
