It's becoming something of an MWC tradition that HMD Global, the company that builds phones under the Nokia brand, offers a gift to sentimental Europeans. In 2017, the manufacturer rebooted the 3310 while 2018 saw the arrival of a similarly refreshed version of the 8110 . Electric cars are considerably quieter than their gasoline-powered counterparts, but that's not always a good thing. Pedestrians, especially those who have visually impairments, often rely on audible cues to signal an approaching vehicle. That's why a law was proposed in 2013 to add noise to electric vehicles and hybrids traveling under 18.6 miles per hour. It was supposed to go into effect in late 2015, but it was delayed. Now, it's been delayed again. According to the Federal Register , the law will now take effect on September 1st, 2020, pushed back from late 2019. All EVs and hybrids produced on after the effective date must have a minimum sound. Starting on September 1st, 2019, 50 percent of hybrid and electric vehicles produced by any manufacturer must meet the standard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Department of Transportation implemented the delay (again) in response to carmakers such as Honda and General Motors. Apparently...

AI research and video games are a match made in heaven. Researchers get a ready-made virtual environment with predefined goals they can control completely, and the AI agent gets to romp around without doing any damage. Sometimes, though, they do break things. Case in point is a paper published this week by a trio of machine learning researchers from the University of Freiburg in Germany. Twitter is globally launching its Bookmarks feature today, giving users a new way of saving tweets they like and might want to revisit. Before, this could be done by liking a tweet, but now you can save them without tapping the heart and directly engaging with a tweet. Another difference is that with Bookmarks, only you know you’ve saved something; the other user doesn’t. To bookmark something, you tap or click the new share icon beneath a tweet. Twitter has replaced its "send via DM" icon with something that can do more than forward a tweet to somebody's inbox. The new share icon brings up a menu with three options to choose from: "Send via DM," "Add Tweet to Bookmarks" and "Share Tweet via..." Yes, the social network is making it much easier to save tweets so you can read them later and to share them off the platform. Twitter's engineers started developing the tools during the company's annual Hack Week activities in 2017 and even finished working prototypes after the event. Product manager Jesar Shah said they decided to work on the new features after getting a ton of requests from users. Huawei’s rumored P20 phone lineup is becoming clearer. Today, VentureBeat reporter Evan Blass published an image of the P20 Lite, which is expected to round out the full phone lineup, which includes the P20 and P20 Pro. All the devices will likely feature a notch at the top, similar to the iPhone X, as well as 18:9 displays. Blass reports that the P20 Lite will be a 5.6-inch phone with a 1080 x 2250 display and a rear fingerprint scanner. It’ll feature an octa-core Kirin 659 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 3,520mAh battery, and will run Android 8.0 Oreo. Amazon really isn't shy about its ambitions for live sports streaming . The tech firm is now selling access to pay-per-view UFC matches, starting with the March 3rd bout between Cris Cyborg and Yana Kunitskaya. If you're willing to drop $65, you can watch fights on any device that can play Prime Video -- although you won't need a Prime subscription. You won't need a TV subscription or a UFC Fight Pass, either. The company certainly isn't a stranger to cord cutting between Prime Video and Channels , which can unify your streaming services. However, this kicks things up a notch: it's supplementing Prime's broadcast-style programming with the premium events that would lead you to either stick with traditional TV or visit a rival digital service. When we talk about the current era of private spaceflight, the phrase "space race" is thrown around quite often. It's meant as a good thing; a space race against the Russians is what put American astronauts on the moon. The idea of rocket billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos working day and night to outdo one another in some spectacle of bravado may sound appealing; it would certainly have entertainment value. TwitchCon has been pinballing around California since it debuted in 2015 in San Francisco, shifting to San Diego and Long Beach in the following years. But in 2018, Twitch is bringing its convention back to the Bay Area, occupying the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA on October 26-28. "As with our previous three conventions, we are keeping things fresh with a new location. And since San Jose has a proven track record of successfully holding major events with plenty of great places to eat and stay, it's exciting to give our attendees a new city to explore for all of the expected community meetups," director of TwitchCon Krystal Herring said in a press release. Convention attendance continues to grow, from 20,000 in 2015 to nearly 50,000 last year. Last week, Nintendo began allowing customers to leave reviews for Switch games on its site. Along with leaving comments, reviewers could list themselves as a Nintendo fan, core gamer, casual player or a parent and they could also tag their review with a number of descriptions such as kid appropriate, immersive or great characters. But, as Polygon reports, customer reviews have already been suspended and there's no word on when or if they might be back. On Nintendo's website , there's now a note under "Customer Review Status" that says, "Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality. We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided. We appreciate the positive response and thank the reviewers who provided such thoughtful commentary on the games." After days of external pressure, YouTube has banned the channel of Atomwaffen, a neo-Nazi group tied to multiple killings. As Motherboard reported today, both Atomwaffen’s primary and backup YouTube channels have been banned for “multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy prohibiting hate speech,” according to a site message. The Daily Beast previously reported that YouTube planned to keep the videos online, simply demonetizing them and adding a warning about offensive content. Atomwaffen was the subject of a recent in-depth report from ProPublica , which obtained chat logs praising a member for killing gay, Jewish college student Blaze Bernstein.
